My Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Diary/Journal - Part One
LASIK laser eye surgery? It's that time of year, (Jan 14th 2005), for self-improvement isn't it? Okay - so why not treat yourself to a new pair of eyes :) and some lasik lasix laser eye surgery.
(For more information on the types of lasik lasix laser eye surgery, and a general description of the different types of lasix laser eye surgery involved please go to Lasik Lasix Laser Eye Surgery).
Yup. I'm going to go to Ultralase and have my eyes lasered with the Lasik lasix laser eye surgery or Lasek method of laser eye surgery to correct my vision. No more glasses for me! I know it's a bit radical, but it actually works out cheaper in the long run. I spend about £250 every couple of years on glasses, and eventually my eyesight would get worse - so why not get lasik lasix laser eye surgery now?
Lasik Eye Surgery Cost
If you look through the Ultralase Payment Options page you'll see that it looks quite expensive for their lasik procedures. But thanks to some clever marketing, or desperation for business on their part, they've come up with a rather good deal for my lasik lasix laser eye surgery. 3 Years Interest Free Credit! Not bad, eh? I did enquire about getting my lasik surgery done before Christmas, but it was just too expensive on their regular payment options. But 3 Years Interest Free Credit for lasik lasix laser eye surgery is just too good an opportunity to over look - it you'll pardon the pun ;). So, how expensive is lasik laser eye surgery, or how much does lasik laser eye surgery cost, I hear you ask? For me it was £995 to get the one eye done.
Because I don't have a large prescription in either eye, (I think it's -1.0 in one, and -1.25 in the other), I think I shall opt for mono-vision correction surgery. What this means is that they will action lasik lasix laser eye surgery on my most dominant eye - my right eye, and that should improve my long-distance, (short-sightedness), in my overall vision by , (at least), driving standard and slightly beyond. However, this lasik laser eye surgery will NOT reduce my near vision, (within arms length vision), which would occur if I get both eyes operated on by lasik lasix laser eye surgery for perfect long distance vision to infinity and beyond!
Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Diary : The Post-Op Report ( 15 Jan 2005)
Well, what can I say? It was all over in a flash - almost. In fact the gory details were:
1. Wacked on the slab and drops put in my right eye, (and one in my left just in case he slipped!)
2. Eyelids pinned back with some medieval torture device last used by some... er medieval torturer I suppose.
3. Eyeball sucked up like an alien abduction into a spacecraft until it all went black and all I could see was light through the gauze on my left eye.
4. Then two small pin prick lights - one red and one green, whilst he used some cutting tool to slice into my cornea.
5. (The best gory bit now....!) - I could smell burning flesh as he shaved microns of tissue off my eye.
There. Wasn't that nice?
But, of course, the main benefit of all of this is that I don't have to wear distance glasses anymore......so far. My brain, (God bless it), now has to work out how come my right eye is fine, and my left eye is still screwed up. Once that is sorted, (c6 weeks), I should have superb distance vision, and back to normal near vision again.
In the meantime it just goes from being almost perfect to pretty scrappy whilst it settles itself. But overall, I have DISTANCE sight - and that's great :)
Lasik Lasix Surgery Diary: One Week Update (22 Jan 05)
Well, I no longer have to put the eye drops in every four hours, which is a blessing. My distance sight is more or less perfect most times of the day. It only gets a bit blurred when I do some close-up work and then look up and into the distance. However, the doctor informs me that this is excellent progress and that in about 12 weeks time everything should be okay. I have a return appointment in a month. But things are looking up!
Lasik Lasix Eye Surgery Diary: Three Week Update (06 Feb 2005)
Yes, it's been three whole weeks since I lay on the table in the Ultralase clinic in Chelmsford, Essex - for approx. 2mins - and had a cold laser burn microns of tissue off my right cornea. Ha - that was just a little reminder for you. .
Okay - so you want to know how it's been, right? Well... it's been different. Remember the first week I had to put drops in my eyes every four hours? Well now I just use artificial tears when needed, which is usually after being in a hot room for a while, or doing lots of laptop, or PC work. It's no big deal really. I had to wear a hard plastic eye cover over my eye at night for the first two weeks, and not to let any water get into my eye for the first two weeks either. That wasn't such a hardship, although washing the tacky feel of surgical tape off my face every morning, (from where the eye patch was secured), was a bit tedious.... and dancing around the shower to avoid water getting in my right eye was a bit of a chore as well.
But what about my sight, right? Okay, well, my sight is good - and improving. All the time I have the distance sight which I wanted. However, my left eye ,with the weak, untreated short-sighted prescription in it, wants to blur things all the time. It's like I have the distance sight, but around the edges of signs etc there can sometimes appear a slightly blurred ring. Intially this was really pronounced - like I was seeing everything with two separate eyes - most confusing! But now, (and this is only three weeks on), that situation is getting less and less.
The one thing which is a bit of a struggle at the moment is my close-up laptop/PC work. But even this is improving. Basically - it was as blurred as Hell when I looked at my laptop/PC for the first time a few weeks ago. I thought "Bloody hell! This doesn't look too good!?" But even now, (and remember this still is only three weeks), that close-up blurring is becoming less and less - the more my eyes get used to this new way of seeing. It's like having new glasses, with new lenses. So I did have some headaches intially as well as my eyesgot used to seeing this way - but even those have gone now.
Would I recommend lasik laser eye surgery - most definately. (But remember to seek professional advice and consultation before agreeing to any kind of surgery of any description). And Ultralase are a very professional outfit as well. More updates soon.
Lasik Lasix Eye Surgery Diary: Almost One Month Update (12 Feb 05)
Back on the 14th January 2005 I was telling you about my lasik laser eye surgery consultation. And then on 15th January 2005 I said that I'd had the lasik laser eye surgery and gave you a post-op report. Since then I informed you of the state of play after three weeks with the lasik laser eye surgery three week report.
Okay. Well we're just about up to speed now. Yesterday, Saturday 12th February 2005, I went back to the clinic for the monthly check-up. What did I have to report to him?:
1. An increase in dryness in my eyes - particularly at night where I have had to get out of bed and put the artificial tear drops in them - both of them - even my untreated eye
2. The variance in blurriness in my near vision, (laptop/PC work).
3. The slight variance in how good the distance vision can be.
4. I also asked if I could go back to the gym now.
So, after taking all those questions in, and examining my eyes, he had the following answer/statements:
A. He gave me two tubes of eye lubricant to use at night. It is thicker than the liquid artificial tears and will prevent the eyes drying up at night. He also gave me two more bottles of the liquid.
B. The near distance variance is nothing unusual. He suggested some reading glasses - and I choose a pair, (FREE!), from their extensive range of ten.
C. The variance in the distance vision is as normal at this stage of the eye's healing.
D. Yes - I can go back to the gym. (And use goggles if I go swimming).
I think on the reading glasses front, I'll hold off for a bit to see if my eyes can adjust themselves normally. I'll give them another few weeks in Blurry Land before I opt for the reading specs.
The sight is generally okay. The dryness is a bit irritating, as I don't know whether there's an eyelash, or something, stuck in there, or do I just flush the eye out a bit more with artificial tears?
But it's coming along quite nicely. I just have to get myself a decent pair of sunglasses, as all my old ones were prescription specs, and the only other pair I've got a massive pair of black, 1980's Rayban Wayfarer's, as worn by the Blues Brothers !
Lasik Laser Eye Surgery Diary/Journal : Summary
I had my doubts about lasik lasix eye surgery to begin with. There are risks with it, like any kind of delicate surgery. But I am perfectly happy with the results. (Remember to seek professional advice and consultation before agreeing to any kind of surgery of any description).
